Ginkgo Petrified Forest State Park is the highlight for many of families as they travel through Eastern Washington.  The great displays of petrified wood and Native American petroglyphs, the magnificent vistas of the Columbia River, historic buildings, and the park make this a place to come back again and again.

Just up the road lies the Ginkgo State Park Interpretive Trails which takes you through short winding trails with petrified wood in its natural state.  This is one of the most unique fossil forests that exists in the world with artifacts dating back thirteen to seventeen million years.

Wanapum Dam and Tourist Center (#1229)
Artifacts, photos and art provide an interesting and educational insight into the lives of Native Americans, fur traders, soldiers, miners and ranchers. Public viewing of the dam's powerhouse, generator gallery,  509754-3541 or 509-764-0500
and fish viewing room is available. Arrange group visits in advance. 

Take I-90 east to Vantage at Exit #136. Cross the Columbia River and turn south onto Highway 243.
